West Lothian

Glitter Cannons LGBT youth group - Boghall Community Wing, Boghall Bathgate.
Thursday 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Providing a safe space for young LGBT people and friends to meet and
socialise. Educational elements include project based work.
All LGBT young people and allies welcome.

There are a number of new members in attendance, each referred through school and social work respectively.

Current projects include the organisation of the first Gay Pride march in West Lothian in conjunction with LGBT Youth Scotland. It is hoped that this will take place in July, and will commence from WL Civic Centre and conclude in Livingston football stadium. Local media will be invited, along with Cosla reps, local councillors and other WLC officials. It is hoped that schools will send delegates of students to take part in this ground-breaking event and that this will become an annual occurrence.

An open evening for parents and carers is being organised to take place in early summer. On display will be art work, creative writing and photographs, highlighting the work of the young people. There are also plans for the Glitter Cannons to take part in Bathgate Gala-day procession. However perhaps the most ambitious project currently being undertaken is an official Race for Life event, to take place in Armadale Academy. It is hoped that delegations of students from schools from across West Lothian will take part, along with the entire CYS team...

Glitter Cannon workers are currently facilitating two new LGBT groups in both Bathgate and Armadale Academy. These are very well attended and have numbers in excess of 14 -16 young people each week. All of the above projects are being developed in conjunction with Dynamic Youth Awards.

Glitter Cannon staff are currently supporting Armadale and Bathgate Academy to gain the LGBT Scotland Charter mark.

The Glitter Cannons and West Lothian Youth Forum recently won an award at the annual Cosla presentation ceremony, which took place in Crieff Hydro on 12th March.

Age group: 14 – 21
