Leadership Team

Fergus McMillan, Chief Executive

Fergus has over ten years' experience campaigning for human rights and equality for young people. An experienced senior manager in the not-for-profit sector, he has enjoyed six years leading organisational change in strategy, finance and human resources. Fergus has a strong commitment to the principles and values of community work with young people. He is co-founder and managing partner of respectme, Scotland's anti-bullying service. As Chief Executive, Fergus is responsible for the day-to-day strategic leadership of the charity and reports directly to the Board of Trustees. @FergusMcMillan

Cara Spence, Policy Director

Cara has worked in the youth work sector for more than 10 years. She oversees the Policy and Mainstreaming Team at LGBT Youth Scotland whose work focuses on influencing decision makers through policy work, research and campaigns. Key external facing projects sit in her team including an LGBT Domestic Abuse Project, the LGBT Charter Mark, LGBT History Month and the LGBT National Youth Council. Cara has a background in sexual health, has a PGC in Community Education and previously studied gender and film.

John Nicholls, Youth Work Director

John Nicholls is the newest member of our Senior Leadership Team, joining us in September 2015. John has worked in the Scottish youth work and health sectors since graduating from Moray House in 1998. He has worked mostly in the third sector, delivering and managing health improvement activities in sexual health, drugs, alcohol and mental health. Most recently managing the Children's Parliament's community programmes, promoting children's rights and implementing a rights-based approach to early intervention work in various locations across Scotland.  

Brandi Lee Lough Dennell, Assistant Policy Director

As Assistant Policy Director Brandi Lee has core focus on training delivery and policy support to improve LGBT equality within voluntary and statutory organisations, in line with our LGBT Charter Mark. She is involved in policy engagement with decision makers, and is our lead researcher, engaging with LGBT young people on issues that affect them. Brandi Lee also manages our LGBT Domestic Abuse Project.

Michelle Sodo, Head of Business Support

Michelle has worked for LGBT Youth Scotland since December 2007 and with the help of the Business Support Team manages the internal operations and physical infrastructure of the Charity. Michelle's key responsibilities are in the areas of finance, IT, administration, human resources and health and safety. Michelle also provides support to the National Board in their activities and helps support National events.
