Nina Swaps Socks for Support - You Can Too!

As 2016 starts to draw to a close and we head for the last minute shopping dash, Glaswegian Nina Cameron decided to swap socks for support this year.

Posting on social media to her friends, Nina shared that this year she would:

“really rather use the money I'd spend on presents and donate it to charity. Specifically to the Scottish Association for Mental Health, LGBT Youth Scotland, and the Scottish Refugee Council.”

“I don't need more things, so would like to ask that anything you'd kindly consider spending on me gets put towards one of these charities, because they all do amazing work.”

Speaking about her decision to give to LGBT Youth Scotland this Christmas instead of buying gifts, Nina commented:

“I felt it was important to do this especially this year, because 2016 has been a year filled with bigotry and hatred, and I wanted to do something to help a charity that does incredibly important work for young people who, right now, might be feeling even more alone and isolated.”

“I hope, in even a small way, to help to fund services that make it easier for young LGBT people to access support that helps them celebrate and accept themselves, and works towards a society that does too.”

"I wanted to do something to help a charity that does incredibly important work for young people who, right now, might be feeling even more alone and isolated."

“This year, I didn't want to spend a fortune on "things" that will be lost, broken, or forgotten by ne'erday, I want to send some money, and a lot of love, to try and do something positive instead.”

We were delighted to hear of Nina’s decision to support our work with LGBTI young people. This time of year can be particularly challenging for young LGBTI people, especially those who have been made homeless as a result of family breakdown and lack of acceptance of who they are. LGBTI people can often feel isolated and alone from the effects of homophobic bullying and discrimination.

Every penny raised helps us continue providing life saving and life changing support to LGBTI young people throughout the year.

Our supporters and friends enable us to continue pushing for an inclusive Scotland, where all LGBTI young people are safe, respected and included.
