First Supporters' Evening held in Edinburgh

Monday night saw LGBT Youth Scotland’s first ever Supporters’ Evening in Edinburgh. Hosted by Standard Life in their 7th floor hospitality suite, we were treated to fabulous views of Edinburgh Castle from the windows.

Guests were welcomed and given some insight into our work by three young people we work with. Megan, Christy and River shared their stories and told us how their involvement with LGBT Youth Scotland has helped them over the years. From being bullied at school, to dealing with mental health issues and coming to terms with their own gender and sexual identities, these three inspirational young people highlighted exactly why the support we provide is so important.

We then had the official launch of our digital annual review, made in conjunction with young people and moving away from the traditional printed document into a more accessible video format. You can view the video above, and find out from young people, staff, volunteers and professionals exactly what makes us tick!

We finished up the evening with a few words from our chief executive, Fergus McMillan. He highlighted the changes we have seen in the past year and our achievements as well as talking about plans for the future sustainability of LGBT Youth Scotland. With numbers of young people accessing our services increasing (tripling over the last 3 years) and increased competition for ever decreasing funding, he had a very clear call to action for all our supporters:

  • Become a friend of LGBT Youth Scotland with our new Friends & Family Scheme where you can make a big difference for as little as £5 a month and we’ll keep you up to date with our regular newsletter, let you know about all our events and welcome you along to our annual supporters’ evening next year.
  • Introduce us to a friend who you think might be interested in supporting us – we know there are lots of people who understand what it’s like to be young and LGBT and we need your help to reach them.

  • Suggest or help organise a fundraising event to support us – we’re always looking for new ideas and helpers to organise events so put your thinking cap on and get in touch with our Fundraising Manager today at fund@lgbtyouth.org.uk

A huge thank you to Standard Life for hosting us, to Megan, Christy and River for speaking and to all our supporters who came along on a lovely summer's evening.
