Summer Update from our Edinburgh Groups

Our Edinburgh groups have been busy as ever and have lots coming up so here are the edited highlights. LGBT Youth Scotland hosted the youth space at this year’s Edinburgh Pride in July with 300 young people attending.

There was a space for young people to sign, perform and share spoken word, as well as dedicated space for chilling out, arts and crafts, 1-2-1’s with trained staff and stalls from LGBT Charter Marked organisations, constituted groups and two newly formed social enterprises.

“ I felt included and a part of something bigger.”

“ It was my first pride and I felt really included and happy.”

Beyond Gender, our group for transgender, non-binary and intersex young people and their friends and allies, hosted its 3rd AGM on 26th July,

With more than 30 people attending it was a great chance for them to highlight the work they have undertaken in the last year delivering workshops to their younger peers and campaigning for transgender, non-binary and intersex inclusion.

Complementing this work our pilot group for transgender young people under 16 (InfiniT) is now up and running and we’re working closely with parent group TransParentSees. You can get more details on this and any of our work in the east of Scotland from ann.marriott@lgbtyouth.org.uk

And finally, we’re delighted to have been awarded an Action Earth Grant for the second time so our urban garden in Edinburgh will soon be looking tip top thanks to the young people taking part in our big clean up days in August.
