SHINE is Toonspeak’s celebrated personal development project, now tried and tested over three years with many young people across Glasgow. Led by a Theatre Artist and a Life Coach, we will explore identity, needs and hopes for the future. Using techniques from Theatre Making and Life Coaching, we will build confidence, creativity and the skills to express ourselves and make our voices heard.

Drew Taylor, Theatre Maker

“I am a theatre maker and LGBTI activist based in Glasgow.

I regularly make LGBTI themed work:

  • I premiered Dustin Lance Black's "8" in Scotland in 2012 [a docu-theatre piece on the marriage equality scandal in California surrounding Proposition 8]
  • I was commissioned as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival to make a piece about legalised homophobia in 44 of the competing countries Scotland welcomed as part of the Games
  • I have worked for Glasgay! for the last 6 years - producing a wide array of works

I firmly believe that any cultural opportunity I come by is one to forward LGBTI visibility and advocacy.

I want to meet you.
I want to talk to you about your experiences and how you see the world.
I want to know what your life is like as a young person who identifies as part of the LGBTI community... challenging/surprising/carefree/exciting/laid-back... anything!

Together, I want us to create something that speaks about your life in all its glory… maybe a spoken-word performance, maybe an audio recording, maybe something you have framed on your wall and only you see it.

For 10 weeks let's mess around in a studio, drink tea, have a laugh, make stuff up..."
Theatre Artist, Drew Taylor, who looks forward to meeting and working with you throughout SHINE.
