West Lothian LGBT Forum and Glitter Canons, in partnership with LGBT Youth Scotland, were awarded the prestigious Chairman’s Award at COSLA’s Excellence Awards at Crieff Hydro on the 12th of March 2015.

Shortlisted for the Tackling Inequalities Award, the group were excited to attend the Awards, hosted by Jackie Bird. Ministers, Provosts and Local Authority Representatives were present to cheer on all of the nominated projects.

Chief Executive of West Lothian Council Graham Hope, Head of Education Elaine Cook, Marco Biagi (Minister for Local Government and Community Empowerment) and Patrick Harvie MSP were among those who expressed their delight and congratulations after the award was given.

Anne Marriott, Partnership Manager (East), LGBT Youth Scotland commented:

“There will be an exclusive event within West Lothian Council to further congratulate and mark the fantastic achievement of the group which has developed in partnership with LGBT Youth Scotland, to support LGBT young people across the region.

The LGBT Forum have been instrumental in supporting schools across West Lothian to tackle inequalities and increase awareness of LGBT identities. This work has supported Broxburn Academy in becoming the first school in Scotland to achieve LGBT Youth Scotland’s Silver LGBT Charter Mark. Other schools have now registered to undertake this holistic approach to inclusion.”
