Bearsden Academy's Born This Way Fashion Show Raises £1,400 for LGBT Youth Scotland

Bearsden Academy in East Dunbartonshire holds an annual fashion show to raise funds for various charities. This year the theme was Born This Way; a celebration of individuality and diversity.  The show was organised by Miss Mackell with a team of staff, over 120 pupils involved and an excellent committee of experienced 6th year pupils. Once again, the school produced two flawless sell-out performances in front of over 200 guests. Throughout the evenings the audience were treated to a dozen routines, choreographed entirely by our 6th year committee.

The event raised a very impressive £2,800, and the school pupils chose LGBT Youth Scotland as one of the two beneficaries. This kind donation will be used to support essential activities in the Youth Programmes Team, ensuring that more LGBT young people have access to advice and support. Everyone at LGBT Youth Scotland was delighted to receive this donation.

LGBT Youth Scotland has been working in Bearsden Academy since 2009, delivering a range of interactive workshops on anti-homophobia and bullying, gender stereoypes, and supporting LGBT people. During the next academic year, LGBT Youth Scotland is pleased to be returning to the school to deliver three sessions to each class in S4 as well as launching a new drop in service for any pupil who has questions around their sexual orientation or gender identity.
