Could you be a LGBT Youth Scotland British Youth Council Representative?

About the British Youth Council (BYC) Representative (REP) recruitment 2013

BYC Reps will be responsible in leading LGBT Youth Scotland’s involvement in BYC’s campaigns, work and represent LGBT Youth Scotland at selected BYC events and opportunities.

Am I eligible to apply for the BYC Rep role?

This role is open to any young person aged 13 – 25 who is able to represent both the views of LGBT young people, and able to represent the views and the work of LGBT Youth Scotland in such a context. The focus of this role is about working with BYC’s elected campaigns and leading LGBT Youth Scotland’s engagement in BYC’s work.

You should:

  •       Be aged 13 – 25 years old between now and summer 2015

  •       Have the time to commit to this work

  •       Be prepared to attend preparatory meetings, and do consultation work with peers to prepare for BYC engagement

  •       Be prepared to do some research and learning about UK wide youth issues and UK wide youth participation platforms

  •       Have the skills and confidence to travel independently

  •       Be committed to equality and anti-discrimination

  •       Prepare feedback reports and presentations post events and post campaigning activities

It is important to state that although this role is open to all young people aged 13 – 25 years old, only those young people aged 18 – 25 will have the full opportunity to attend events independently and due to staff and volunteer limitations to support, this may mean that young people under 18 years old may miss out on some of the opportunities associated with this role. It is also important to highlight that due to financial support limitations BYC Reps may not be able to attend all associated BYC events.

There are up to four opportunities for young people to represent LGBT Youth Scotland as BYC Reps. The BYC Rep term will commence in October 2013 and run to summer 2015.
