What is the Scottish Youth Parliament

The Scottish Youth Parliament is an entirely youth-led organisation based on Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which states that “young people have the right to express their views freely and have their opinions listened to in all matters affecting them”. SYP’s mission is to provide a national platform for young people to discuss the issues that are important to them, and campaign for changes to the nation that they live in.

Why is SYP important for LGBT Young people?

MSYPs for LGBT Youth Scotland represent LGBT young people across the whole of Scotland. They represent you at national events, ensure your views are listened to by decision-makers, campaign on issues that are important to LGBT young people and make sure LGBT young people’s needs are reflected in the Scottish Youth Parliament.

How to vote

Anyone who participates in LGBT Youth Scotland can vote in the election. This includes those who attend groups, participate in youth commissions, youth reference groups, or have one-to-one support.

Voting takes place though a “Single Transferable Vote” – this means you rank the candidates from 1-5, with “1” being the person you feel is most suited to representing LGBT young people at the Scottish Youth Parliament. This is a fairer way of voting and means the people elected represent the most people.

Voting is open NOW. To cast your vote click here.

Voting opens on 8 November and closes on Sunday 21 November at 4.30pm. Successful candidates will be announced on the 22nd November.
