Fundraising campaign on target for £20K

Two months ago, we took the big step of reaching out to the public to fundraise in support of our youth work services across Scotland. We’ve been a little shy about talking about money in the past, so sharing the immediacy of our need for funds to keep our services running was new territory for our charity. We are delighted to say that the good will shown to us on social media and through our partnership work has translated into real results. At this halfway point in our campaign, we have raised an incredible £9,255 and are on target to hit our goal of £20,000 by the end of September.

The sheer variety of fundraising methods has taken us by surprise! We're really touched to see that lots of individuals connected with our campaign messages, many of whom have set up recurring monthly donations via our website. That kind of long-term commitment really supports the sustainability of our services.

We’d like to show off a small selection of the many generous fundraisers who have driven this campaign, which will also highlight the diversity of businesses and organisations who have rallied behind our cause:

  • Sainsbury’s South Bridge Edinburgh store bucket shake raised £139.55.
  • University of St Andrews Student Association’s LGBT+ Society Glitterball Ballroom raised £150.50.
  • Edinburgh Disco Lovers donated their recent DJ fee of £180.
  • Abz Mills in Fife donated her skills and time as a tattoo artist, raising £820 during Fife Pride, the second highest amount during the campaign; Sanctuary Body Art in Leith did the same during Edinburgh Pride and raised £350 and The Studio in Glasgow also raised £330 during Mardi Gla.
  • The ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) held a bake sale, raising £257.66 and are already planning their next event: a dress down day.
  • CMS law firm employees in their Scottish offices (Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh) raised £416.51 on a dress-down Friday.
  • The Roslin Institute at Edinburgh University raised £244.68 with a bake sale during LGBTSTEM Day.
  • Clyde & Co held a series of Pride events raising an incredible £2,025: the highest amount during the campaign.

We’re also extremely grateful to Mercat Tours, Wagamama St Andrews Sq and Glasgow Frontrunners for selecting us as their Charity of the Year.

The next leg of the campaign is a challenging one, but we have plenty to look forward to with some special partnerships with Edinburgh Festival performers, a Dundee Tay Bridge walk and lots more surprises around the corner. We need you to get creative, rally your friends and shout about our work as we push for our £20,000 goal.

Most of all, we need your donations!

Check out some of the ways you can support the campaign:

  • Make a one-off text message donation by texting LGBT to 70085 to donate £5. This costs £5 plus a standard rate message. Alternatively, you can opt to give any whole amount up to £20 by texting LGBT followed by the amount you wish to give (for example, LGBT15 to give £15).
  • Fundraise for us! Make it fun and engage your workplace or community group. How about hosting a bake sale, dress down day, coffee morning, doing a sponsored event or a Facebook birthday fundraiser… drop us an email for info and fundraising tips: fund@lgbtyouth.org.uk.
