Below you’ll find dates for our four compulsory training sessions, which you may want to put in your calendar in the meantime.
We are particularly keen to receive new applications from outside the Edinburgh and Glasgow areas. We would also particularly welcome applications from people who identify as trans, intersex or non-binary.
- Sat 25th May: Introduction (Glasgow, 3.5 hours)
- Sat 15th June: Group Work & One-to-One Skills (Edinburgh, 6 hours)
- Sat 6th July: Supporting Trans Young People (Dumfries, 3 hours)
- Sat 20th July: Protection of Children, Young People & Vulnerable Adults (Dundee, 3hrs)
We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities that happen on a regular basis. These include youth group work, digital youth work, admin, research and policy work. If you’re looking to help out on a weekly, fortnightly or even monthly basis, this may well be the option for you.
Short on time? Only available once in a while? No problem. Our Talent Pool is a great way get to involved and give your support to LGBT Youth Scotland as a volunteer, without being tied to a regular commitment.
The idea is simple; when we need some extra help, we’ll get in touch with everyone on our Talent Pool list and see who’s available. This could be something like helping us run an event, redecorating a youth space, or taking part in a fundraising activity. You’re in control, and are free to say yes or no at any time.
There are several ways you can help LGBT Youth Scotland as a volunteer; the main opportunities we are promoting at the moment are listed below.
Opportunities might vary depending on where you are in the country; unfortunately not all opportunities are available in all areas.
If an opportunity you are interested in is marked “waiting list” then we can’t accept any more volunteers for that role in your area at the moment. However, we’ll be happy to contact you once an opportunity becomes available; just complete our volunteer enquiry form and we’ll get in touch with you when the time comes.
Helping with those vital tasks that keep us running! Assist us during the day with various pieces of office administration, such as filing and data entry. This opportunity is available in Edinburgh only.
Be an online youth worker. Provide one-to-one support, info and advice to young people online in live chat and by email. This opportunity is offered in Edinburgh only, and there is currently a waiting list.
Participation volunteers support young people in their peer education roles; including public speaking, design and delivery of workshops, and accreditation. This opportunity is currently only offered in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and there is currently a waiting list.
Talent pool volunteer
Help us out on an ad-hoc basis with things like events and fundraisers, or donate any useful specialist skills you might have!, This opportunity is available in Alloa, Borders, Dumfries, Dundee, East Dunbartonshire, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth, South Ayrshire and Stirling.
Youth group volunteer
Youth group volunteers help facilitate regular LGBT youth groups, working face-to-face with young people in a supportive environment. Previous experience of working with young people under 26 is preferred. This opportunity is available in Alloa, Borders, Dumfries, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Inverness, Perth and Stirling. A waiting list is available in East Dunbartonshire, Glasgow and South Ayrshire.
