LGBT Youth Dumfries and Galloway provide a range of services for young people from our space at Laurieknowe Central, Dumfries (just next to Laurieknowe Primary School). Many young people come to our services from further afield. Our local staff can also act as a local contact for our national services, such as training for professionals, the LGBT Charter Mark Scheme, LGBT Domestic Abuse Project and LGBT History Month.
For more information about the impact of our work in Dumfries & Galloway, read our report, Meeting the Needs of Young LGBT People in Dumfries and Galloway.
Phoenix is a lively group, full of lively young people who are really friendly and welcoming to new members. For people aged 13-17.
The young folk at Phoenix decide their own programme, which includes things like arts and crafts workshops, trips to visit other LGBT Youth Scotland groups, youth led workshops and much more!
Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm.
A social space for young adults ages 18-25.
Thursday evenings from 7-9pm
D&G Gender Group: We actively support trans young people across the region through our Phoenix and New Age youth groups and 1-2-1 support. We’re also planning a calendar of events to allow trans young people to socialise together and share experiences. Please get in touch with us to find out more.
We realise it is sometimes hard for people to get into Dumfries to access groups, or it may be that you are just not confident enough to talk to someone face to face. For these reasons, we offer an online support and befriending service, where you are able to chat to trained staff and volunteers using social media platforms such as Facebook and twitter. This service currently runs on Thursday evenings from 5-7pm, although this may sometimes change. The best way to get in contact is to add us on Facebook! (Get in touch to find out how)
If you are having a hard time related to LGBT issues, you can contact us to arrange a 1-2-1 meeting with Julie Ann who can help you work through a variety of issues. Julie Ann has 1-2-1 sessions available weekly at D&G LGBT Youth Space and you can contact Julie Ann to book a meeting. Whether you’d like an informal chat, some personal goals to work towards or information on a particular topic, we will always try our best to help. We can also refer you to an appropriate agency which may be better suited to support you.
For more information about our services for young people, email Julie Ann at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 01387 255058
