LGBT National Youth Council (NYC)

The LGBT National Youth Council

Who We Are:

The LGBT National Youth Council (NYC) is a network of young people from across Scotland, supported by LGBT Youth Scotland.  NYC Members and Champions, aged 13-25, represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) young people from their local LGBT youth group or local authority area.

The NYC meets nationally all over Scotland for busy weekends of training, campaign work and feeding back local issues.  Members also keep in touch between meetings by holding local area meetings, contributing to the NYC bebo, or discussing issues on LGBT Youth’s online forums.

The NYC has a dedicated worker at LGBT Youth Scotland who helps raise the profile of the NYC and supports members with their work.  Their role is to identify opportunities for the NYC to get involved in to ensure that LGBT young people’s voices are heard at every level.  They make sure that all NYC members are given the opportunity to fully participate in all work of the NYC.

LGBT Youth Scotland also has two Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) who are elected from the NYC.  It is their job to represent the views of LGBT young people to the whole of the Scottish Youth Parliament.  To find out more about the Scottish Youth Parliament visit:  www.scottishyouthparliament.org
