How to get Involved

There are three main ways you can get involved in the NYC

Seats

You can be elected as a member of the NYC to represent an LGBT youth group or a local authority area. There is one seat per group and area.

If you live in an area where there is not currently an active LGBT youth group, you can still get involved with the NYC by contacting nyc@lgbtyouth.org.uk

NYC Member

NYC Members lead the work of the NYC, attending national residentials, local meetings, events and developing the campaigns of the NYC.  It’s a busy job and requires a lot of time and commitment.

To become a member of the NYC, you need to be elected by young people from your local group, area or at our annual LGBT Youth Scotland National Gathering.  Members are elected for a year and most elections are held at the National Gathering in the summer.  If your group or area doesn’t already have an NYC Member, you can email us to set up an election.

NYC Champion

If you don’t want to be a member (or if there is already a member for your group/area), you can still support the work of the NYC.  Champions are non-elected supporters of the NYC.  Anyone who regularly attends an LGBT youth group can become a Champion, and help with the work of the NYC.

This might involve helping with questionnaires, assisting at events, or just regularly contributing to the NYC bebo. You might also be offered the chance to attend meetings, events or residentials if there are any extra spaces.
