Young People's Feedback

During March, LGBT Youth Scotland has run over 52 individual groups, 1 residential, 6 events, countless advice and support meetings, mainstream/internet/’scene’ outreach sessions, workshops and training events across Scotland.

We have received a range of feedback on our services by young people who access our services and opportunties:

“I also think that the young lads who came and talked were so brave and so courageous. To talk about the bullying they had to go through must have been so difficult but they still did it, and I just felt so sorry for them. I can't imagine the pain they had to go through that they didn't deserve. They are amazing people who set the best example. They should be really proud of themselves and I just have so much respect for them.”  (Young person at school outreach workshop, Scottish Borders)

“We were asked to go to the Green Light Project which is a new project about ‘Coming out’. We were given tasks to do which would help LGBT young people feel more confident about ‘Coming out’ so they aren't hiding their identity and living a lie just because they are so frightened to be themselves.  The residential was able to teach us about how to go in to youth settings and speak to young folk about a life without the lie and living the truth.”  (Young people from central and southern Scotland who attended the Green Light Project Training Residential)

“When I was at school, I thought that I was gay, but I went out with a girl just to fit in.  I started going to a youth group that LGBT was running in town.  It was great to have someone to talk to about how I felt and they gave me good advice.  About 3 months after going to the group, I came out to my family and friends – they were great and were really happy that I trusted them enough to tell them and I couldn’t have done this without the support I got from the Centre – I’m now really happy and able to take part in volunteering at the group to help others.”  (Volunteer at Dumfries LGBT Centre)
