Vivid Youth Visits Work It Out

Our Vivid Youth service in Glasgow is currently creating links with the Work It Out youth group in Birkenhead, Liverpool.  As part of this process 5 of our young people, along with 2 members of staff, attended a conference on 20 April 2009 in Wallasey Town Hall.

The event was to launch a new online service for the Work It Out group (www.workitoutatbrook.org.uk), and was attended by around 100 people from several professional backgrounds, mainly youth work, teaching and social work.

The young people involved gave a very thoughtful presentation on the ‘journey’ a young person travels while accessing an LGBT youth service.  This presentation was very well received, and not only did it provide the audience an insight into the experiences of young people, but it gave those involved an opportunity to showcase the work we are doing in Glasgow while gaining the skills and experience to do so.

Our staff also ran a workshop on the involvement of LGBT young people in mainstream organisations giving hints and tips on how to engage with the LGBT community.

LGBT Youth Scotland are very pleased to have been involved in this event and look forward to working much closer with the Work It Out service.
