Pride Scotia 2009
We would like to say a big thank you to all the young people, staff and volunteers who took part in Pride Scotia 2009, Edinburgh. On a very wet and dull Saturday afternoon, over 60 young people gathered on the Royal Mile to celebrate and show their pride in support of the LGBT community.
The whole event was a huge success; the PRIDE march took us down the Royal Mile and past the Scottish Parliament and up onto Royal Terrace, with the final run taking us all the way to the Omni Centre centred in the middle of the LGBT district of the city. After the march, young people from all over Scotland joined us in our big pink tent for activities all afternoon in the LGBT Youth Scotland youth space in Gayfield Square.
Highlights included music by The Stigs and Robert Sproulcran, hair styling, face-painting, a youth quiz, ‘beat the goalie’ Hotscots competition and a cupcake stall through volunteers effort. Last, but by no means least uber popular Sumo Wrestling Suits and a Pride has Talent competition. We thank our partners Pilton Video and S.N.I.P. for their support on the day.
We look toward future opportunities for all LGBT young people of all abilities through joint work and organisations using innovating technologies to encourage the development of youth skills, youth volunteering and youth participation. If anyone wants photos of themselves from the day contact the Youth and Community Development Officer.
Pride is a really important event and it was great to see so many people out there in support of Scotland’s diverse communities, and despite the weather everyone had a fabulous time. See you all next year….!
