Stevenson Picks Award for Supporting LGBT Students
STEVENSON College has been presented with an award for its commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.
The Edinburgh college is only the second in Scotland to receive the LGBT Youth Scotland Charter Mark.
It comes following a month of activities at the college designed to raise awareness of the issues among the wider student population.
The college’s drive to improve the service it offers to LGBT students started two years ago, when a transsexual student sought help after suffering such severe abuse that she was forced to move house several times.
Since then, the college has introduced a range of measures, including a buddy scheme, which now has eight trained student volunteers to support their peers.
