Dumfries and Galloway Service Survey Results

As part of our ongoing evaluation, through which we strive to constantly improve our services, LGBT Youth Scotland e-mailed an online survey to LGBT people, their family members, friends and supporters, as well as Organisations across Dumfries and Galloway to find out what differences our work had made locally and what improvements people would like to see.

"I am greatly impressed with what is available in the Dumfries area.  Having experienced life as a parent of a gay young person who felt their only route of support was to talk to their GP who told them they would probably grow out of it - LGBT Youth Scotland is a wonderful resource" (parent of an LGBT person)

A total of 217 people from responded to the survey which was live for 2 weeks:

  • 56 LGBT people took part in the survey; 8 of whom were also part of an organisation
  • 43 family members or friends took part in the survey, 10 of whom were also part of an organisation
  • 119 professionals from organisations responded, including 10 people who were family or friends of LGBT people and 9 individuals who were LGBT themselves
  • 55% were from Dumfries & surrounding areas; 13% from Wigtownshire; 12% from Annandale & Eskdale; 11% from Stewartry; 2% from Upper Nithsdale and 7% from out with Dumfries & Galloway
  • 10% were aged 25 and under and 90% were over 26 years of age
  • 33% had been involved directly in our work and 59% were aware of the work of LGBT Youth Scotland and the LGBT Centre and 8% had never heard of the work until now

The survey revealed overwhelming cross-community support for the local service:
