LGBT History Month is held annually in February as a showcase of the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Last February saw around 200 events across Scotland ranging from exhibitions to story-telling events to film screenings to LGBT nights in pubs and clubs. “LGBT History month is a most welcome development. It is much easier to know where you are going, if you know where you have been – that is true of all history, and because change has come so rapidly, this is particularly true of the history of LGBT issues. I am sure this month will be a revelation of many moving tales, a spur to further action, and an inspiration to all." Robin Harper - Green MSP

This coming February is going to be even bigger and better, but we need your help to make it a success. If you have any ideas for events that you would like to see in your local community, please let us know. We can offer support and materials for organising events and will publicise them through our website.

LGBT History Month is an excellent opportunity for organisations, whether they be local community groups, national partnerships or university LGBT societies, to put on events to highlight their own histories in an LGBT context. It is also an opportunity for LGBT people and their families to tell their stories and educate the younger generations on what life was like for LGBT people in Scotland before LGBT equality was in the public consciousness.

Additionally, businesses and offices may choose to show their support for LGBT History Month by displaying publicity. Our new website will be online at this address in a few weeks time and will include a calendar of events for the month, details of previous LGBT History Month activities and an archive of LGBT historical material.
