What We Do

The NYC’s main activity is representation. To do this accurately, an amount of consultation is required. This can be anything from a formal research consultation like the Sex and Relationships Education consultation that we have just done or just going along to your local group and finding out what young people think.

Giving young people a voice is the important thing and this is key to all the work the NYC does. NYC members speak to young people in their local area or group and bring back their views, opinions and issues to the whole NYC, then the NYC can see if there is any campaign, research or activity that could be done in that area or group to help solve any problems or issues and support the young people to make an active change.

The MSYP’s can also take issues brought to the NYC to the Scottish youth Parliament to see if there is anything else that can be done and get the young peoples voices and issues heard at a national level.

At our national meetings we do training on things like board meetings skills, representation skills and consultation skills. Its not all boring though, a lot of the workshops are written and delivered by young people so there’s a fun aspect to everything!

We also take part in loads of fun events! The NYC has been involved in thing such as Pride 2007, Connect4Youth (LGBT Youth Scotland event) and Oxfam’s Worlds AIDS day event.

There are loads of chances to volunteer and get more involved in LGBT issues. The NYC is a fantastic opportunity to meet young LGBT people from all over Scotland and make a positive difference to the lives of LGBT young people. We carry out projects and campaigns to raise the profile of LGBT young people in Scotland. We want all young LGBT people in Scotland to be included and listened to.
