What does the future hold for the youth council? Well you’re the very people that decide!!!

We have just completed the first part of our sex and relationships education consultation and wrote a small report about our findings. The second part of this consultation is to ask teachers what they think about LGBT issues in the curriculum, so we are doing a consultation with teachers from all over Scotland.

The youth council was involved in the planning for LGBT youth Scotland’s National gathering which took place in Dundee in 2008. The National Gathering is exactly what it says on the tin - it’s an opportunity for young LGBT people from all over Scotland to come together for a national event and take part in workshops, networking and getting their voices heard. It was a great opportunity for the NYC to get more members from areas in Scotland we currently don’t have, and for LGBT young people to find out how to take part in making things better in their communities. Our main aim for the future is to have a NYC rep from every area and LGBT youth group in Scotland so we can see we are representative of young people from every area of Scotland.
