Tayside Volunteer Roadshows

Throughout Scotland, young people are growing up who identify as LGB and T. Often these young people experience more isolation, homelessness, lower levels of self esteem and depleted confidence, and more frequent bullying than their peers. As a result of living without relevant role models, often without validation from family and friends, and living in a heterosexist society that tells them that being LGB or T is not normal, these young people are at a higher risk of self-harm and suicide.

They need more support with mental health, and statistically have lower levels of achievement at school. There is however support available – LGBT Youth Scotland provide a safety net for young people identifying as LGB and T. They work with young people aged 13-26, helping them access support, advice and information, and also to access peer support, get involved in the community and have their voices heard. They also work with the wider LGBT community (26+), families of LGBT people and professionals from a wide range of backgrounds.

LGBT Youth Scotland are currently working throughout Tayside to extend current service provision for LGBT young people in the area. To allow them to do that, they are looking for volunteers to join their ‘Events and Resources’ and ‘Groups and Outreach’ teams. These teams will develop groups and events for young people and for the community in general, as well as conduct outreach in mainstream and gay environments.

A full programme of training will be offered, as well as travelling expenses, regular support and supervision and volunteer socials. LGBT Youth Scotland want to make volunteering a fun and interactive experience for you – because without you, none of this would be possible!

Monday 26th January, 6.30-7.30pm, No.1 For Youth/Dialogue Youth building, 1-3 High Street, Forfar

Wednesday 28th January, 6.30-7.30pm, Perth Gateway, North Methven Street, Perth

Friday 30th January, 6.30-7.30pm, Number Ten, 10 Constitution Road, Dundee
