LGBT History Month and the LGBT Charter of Rights

The LGBT Charter of Rights and its accompanying toolkit is a tool which organisations use to mainstream LGBT issues into their service making it more inclusive of LGBT people. Organsations complete a number of steps using the toolkit which LGBT young people and the wider LGBT community felt that organisations could and should take to make their service more LGBT inclusive.

The steps include looking a policies and their impact on LGBT people, staff training and reaching out to and improving visibility of LGBT people and LGBT issues.

Not sure how you service can reach out to LGBT people? Wondering how to raise awareness of LGBT people and LGBT issues? Why not get involved in LGBT History Month?

LGBT History Month is celebrated annually in February, recognizing the lives and histories of LGBT people from past to present. LGBT History Month works with a diverse range organisations all over Scotland helping them to organise events such as an LGBT Film festival, seminars, or even a quiz night.

Organising an event for LGBT History month is an excellent way of fulfilling some of the requirements of the LGBT Charter and sends out a clear message to all that equality and diversity are core to your organisation.
